  1. Simon Thomas of 'music OMH' has posted this review:

"There are some interesting juxtapositions – the heart-breaking It Never Entered My Mind (Mary Carewe) immediately followed by the dazzlingly witty To Keep My Love Alive (Maria Friedman) – and some obvious highlights including an ethereally sweet Blue Moon from Tim Howar. The newcomer is on cracking form too in Spring is Here and Wait Til You See Her."

  2. I saw the concert last night and my friend and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The band was superb and the soloists terrific. It was good to hear the musical introductions to so many of the songs as often these are ignored.
However I have one criticism "the lighting!"
Often the solo singers were singing in virtual darkness. This could have been for effect, though I somehow doubt it, where was the "follow spot?" This could have made a huge improvement to what was a well produced evening.

    Regards,
    Mike

  3. I saw the concert last night with my partner and we thoroughly enjoyed the evening. I thought that this was definitely Mary Carewe's evening - with plenty of highlights from all the other singers. I was well impressed by Ms Friedman's rendition of Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered - and well done her for attempting all the verses! (well done too to the MD who was able to prompt beautifully!) The new young guy was excellent although we did miss Daniel Evans from the line up.

The MD was fantastic - such glorious arrangements and on occasion the most lyrical and well thought out balance of accompanying - truly gifted.

Simon Green is also such an excellent narrator and gives us tasty tit bits of information about the writers and the songs.

I too must criticise the lighting - very poor. It isn't difficult to look at a running order and see who is singing next - why did the singers have to sing a line before they were lit? And surely it is possible to create a central light scheme that will cover all five performers - they had to stay stage left in order for that to happen!

All in all a wonderful evening - Thank You!

  4. Thanks for a fabulous concert. It was a pleasure to see the audience and artistes enjoying what they did.It is a long time since I have seen the cast of a show really enjoying each others work and enjoying the programme themselves.
I agree with the comment above that there were slight problems with lighting the artists which in this day and age I would have thought that the norm of electric pre programming would have overcome.

The musical director was absolutely fabulous and it would be very unfair to single out any of the singers as the songs chosen for them to sing fitted each voice well and the harmonisations were brilliant especially on the acapella rendition at the end.
